Stevens Family Crew / Reunion?

Hi all,

I have contacted most everyone in the family by e-mail, phone or snail mail by now. You are a very difficult group to get a hold of, but I'm trying! Eric and I thought we would like to organize a family reunion. But we would really like everyones input. So don't be afraid to link onto this page. Just click on 'post a comment'. Think of this site as the Stevens Family community post. Share your thoughts here. Contacting everyone one person at a time isn't very efficient and wears me out! If comments don't come up, hit #comments, to see what others posted.

Should there be a Stevens Family Reunion?
The moms (Rae, Doris, Susan) are all pushing for this.

When should this reunion be?
Karen and Linda have commitments the summer of '07 but said they would try.

Where should it be? Suggestions have been :
Lake McConaughy Neb
Lake Mead / Las Vegas
Lake Powell
Washington State

How should this be arranged?

Suggestions?

If it is not an inconvience I'd like to have it at two cabins on the slopes of Mt. Rainier, end of June or early July 2007. Eric

Hi, Dena, I hope you get this. I just tried to Blog you and I don't think that it "took". Just count us in on any plans for next summer. Rae

MT Rainier sounds great but thats pretty far for us! We'd prefer something more centrally located.

The Thompson's have a cabin in Colorado, near Estes Park. We could set up there, kids could sleep outside in tents adults inside in beds. There's plenty of hiking and fishing nearby, not to mention Rocky Mtn National Park is right there too.

Of course anything near the ocean would get the seal of approval by my family!

I think a great place to have a reunion would be Lake Tahoe area! We
were there last week staying in a house with another family in the
Tahoe-Donner area, closer to Truckee, and had a great time! We drove (it's
a 6 hour drive for us), others could fly into Reno, it's only 30
minutes away from Truckee.

We stayed in a 'development' called Trout Creek. It wasn't an obvious
development, I think people bought lots and built custom homes, it
looks like cabins of all sizes in the woods, no fences, lots of trees. The
nice thing about Trout Creek was we had access to two recreation areas.
Golf, 9 tennis courts, three pools, spa, steam, sauna, gym. We used
ALL the facilities plus floated down the Truckee River one day, I mean
float, no rapids...well maybe one class .5 (as in 1/2), nothing more than
a few bumps. Definitely doable for all ages. We went to Squaw Valley
for lunch one day. There is a gondola that takes you to the half way
house where we could hike and swim and have lunch. There is old town
Truckee, very quaint. We could go to Lake Tahoe, about a 20 minute drive,
and go out on the lake, possible a family cruise on the paddle boat (or
something like that, my mother in law was telling me about it). We
could go to Donner Lake and rent kayaks or seadoos, whatever. We could go
to North Shore and check out the casinos. The girls went horse back
riding, trail ride kind of thing one day and loved it.

Let me me know what you think.

How about Mammoth Lakes at the Hoagland's cabin? $50 a night total still I think. Mountain biking, golf, fishing, hiking... Hang out in the old stomping grounds!

I REALLY like the Mammoth idea, I haven't been there in 25 years !

Has anybody heard from Linda, Nancy, John or Paul on this subject? I've written everyone at least twice and I've called all at least once. Are these cousins even interested? The whole point is a 'family reunion' it would be nice if we heard from everyone.

Mammoth sounds great, but is pretty far for us to drive (I know, second verse same as the first). We really need to plan something now for Mark to be able to get time off next summer (as with most people I am sure).

The cabin near Estes Park is still available, and it's not too late to book area cabins/bed & breakfast/Inns for those that wouldn't want to camp out.

Whatever we chose we really need to get on the stick and plan it or postpone until summer '08.

Mark and I were talking last night and now that it is almost October it seems a little late to really get something going for next summer...should we just plan now for 08?

Estes Park or Tahoe works for us!

As much as I hate the idea, I'm ready to give up. There are only 8 cousins in the family, and this just doesn't seem to be happening. So if you all want this to happen, call me, just let me know - I'll show up.

Mark & I have discussed putting something together for 08. We would get all the info, plan it all out and let everyone know. We were still thinking of Estes Park because CO is fairly central. We discussed planning horseback riding excursions, hiking, cycling ect. There is so much to do that I think everyone could find something they enjoyed. The YMCA of the Rockies is not far either (and for those that have never been there-it is like no other YMCA you have ever seen!). We would plan "free" days too for those thast just want to sight see in the area or pop down to Boulder. Meeker Park lodge is nearby (the Thompson family cabin) and there is plenty of room for travel trailers & tents on the property. The Boulder Dinner Theater is 40 minutes away and ton's of fun. So if you want us to we will plan it all out...for now we're thinking 08, but if we can get good feedback now we might be able to do it for summer 07.

Trust me when I say plan it out...the Thompson's know how to plan!

I haven’t gotten anything accomplished for the family reunion. So Paula and Mark want to take the helm on this project. Paula will be setting up a blog soon and keep everyone posted.

Hi to all the Stevens Clan from Arkansas,

As one of the Aunties, I'd like to strongly offer my support to you who want to form a "cousins reunion". Can't you just hear Grandma Stevens in the background? She'd be calling each and everyone, probably fussing about why it's taking you so long to get organized.

When the world is crazy all around us what better comfort is there than family?

When and where are probably the biggest concerns for everyone because of work, time, distance and the cost of things today. Because the "Stevens Roots" are in Los Angeles Peggy would say lets have a party here in LA, or somewhere close to LA. Maybe the beach would be a better thought. I'm not so sure the location should be the stumbling block.
